LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Shippensburg Lady Raiders battled back from an early first-half deficit and overcame a cold shooting performance to defeat Lock Haven 69-63 and improve to 2-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action for the first time since 2003-04.

The Lady Raiders (12-5, 2-0 PSAC West) entered Wednesday's contest with the PSAC's top-ranked scoring offense averaging 72.1 points per game and also ranked first in field goal percentage, hitting 44 percent of the season. Lock Haven (8-8, 1-1 PSAC West) held the Lady Raiders to just 32.8 percent shooting, but freshman Lauren Beckley (Fairfield/Fairfield) helped offset the offensive struggles, leading four Lady Raiders in double figures with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Lock Haven jumped out to an early lead, hitting five of its first six shots from the field and built a 15-4 advantage nearly eight minutes into the contest. After Beckley knocked down a jumper and scored on a lay-up on the teams' second and third possessions, Shippensburg went scoreless until sophomore Phylicia Bessick (Columbia/Hempfield) canned two free throws at 10:47, snapping an eight-minute drought.

Trailing 19-8 with 8:51 remaining, Lady Raider red-shirt freshman Jenny Cunningham (McVeytown, Pa./Lewistown), who finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, scored the teams' next seven points, which included a 3-pointer that cut the lead to 21-15 with 6:11 left in the half.

Shippensburg finally took the lead 25-23 with two minutes remaining on a Beckley layup. Lock Haven, however, refused to go away, retaking the lead 35-34 with 15:25 remaining in the contest. The Lady Raiders trailed by as many as six in the following 12 minutes of action, but with 3:01 remaining, Beckley hit a 3-pointer to give Ship a 58-57 advantage.

From there, junior Megan Fogle (Wrightsville/Eastern York) cashed in six of her 10 points, including 4-of-4 from the line. In the final 2:26, the Lady Raiders dropped 9-of-12 free throws to keep Lock Haven at bay.

Helping the Lady Raider cause was senior Shanna Oaddams (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro), who finished with 13 points and seven rebounds. Shippensburg also controlled the glass, pulling down 15 offensive rebounds, which led to 23 second chance points. Lock Haven was limited to just four second chance points.

Shippensburg will look to stay unbeaten in the PSAC West on Saturday, Jan. 20 against Clarion at Heiges Field House. The game will be broadcast on cstv.com. The first 500 fans in attendance at Heiges Field House will receive a free Shippensburg t-shirt. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
