Defense Guides Lady Raiders to 68-59 Win at Millersville, Travel to Edinboro Wednesday

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Led by 16 points and 12 rebounds by senior center Shanna Oaddams (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro), the 30th double double of her career and fourth this season, the Shippensburg women's basketball team used timely scoring en route to a 68-59 victory over Millersville at Pucillo Gymnasium on Sunday.

The Lady Raiders (9-5) have now won seven of their last nine games while improving their mark to 5-1 against PSAC Eastern Division competition.

Shippensburg, the top scoring offense in the PSAC, entered this weekend's crossover games ranked 12th in the 14-team conference in scoring defense, but for the fourth time in five games, held its opponent under 60 points. The Lady Raiders are 5-0 when holding their opponent to 60 points or less.

Millersville (8-4) jumped out to a six-point lead in the game‚s first six minutes, 14-8, but thanks to a 7-0 run, the Lady Raiders were able to take a 15-14 lead with 11:31 left in the first half.
From there, neither team was able to pull away early as the game was back and forth and featured five ties until the final 2:55 when Shippensburg closed the half on a 4-0 to take a 32-27 halftime lead.

Oaddams totaled 10 points and five rebounds in the first half, hitting 5-of-8 field goal attempts.
The Lady Raiders picked right up where they left off to start the second half, scoring the first five points to increase their lead to 10, 37-27 with 18:42 to play. They would later extend that lead to 12 before the Marauders cut it in half, 55-49 with 7:34 remaining, but that would be as close as Millersville would get.

For Shippensburg, the win was not only its first at Pucillo Gymnasium since an 88-62 decision back on Nov. 25, 1995, but also a win against the 2005 PSAC champions and a team that was second in the Eastern Division a year ago.

After being held to just three points and nine minutes in the first half of because of having two fouls, freshman forward Lauren Beckley (Fairfield/Fairfield) finished the game with 14 and seven rebounds as she has now scored in double figures in all 14 of the team's game this season.
Junior forward Megan Fogle (Wrightsville/Eastern York) added 11 points while red-shirt freshman Jenny Cunningham (McVeytown/Lewistown) made her first career start, totaling nine points and four assists.

Meanwhile, freshman Kendra Lehman (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) had eight points, three short of her career-high. She had four points on 2-of-2 shooting in the first half as she totaled 10 minutes, subbing in for Beckley who picked up two fouls in just nine minutes.

Shippensburg out-rebounded the Marauders 37-29 and hit 21-of-29 from the free throw line, including 13-of-16 in the second half.

The Lady Raiders will open PSAC Western Division play on Wednesday when it travels to Edinboro for a 5:30 p.m., tip-off from McComb Fieldhouse, a place the Lady Raiders have not won since Feb. 19, 2002, a span of four games.
