Fogle Leads Lady Raiders to Third-Straight Win, 70-46 Over Mansfield

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Paced by a strong second half in which it shot 66.7-percent and outscored Mansfield by 18, the Shippensburg women's basketball won its third-straight game, 70-46 over the Mountaineers on Wednesday at Heiges Field House in a PSAC crossover contest.

Junior guard Megan Fogle (Wrightsville/Eastern York) led the way for the Lady Raiders (6-4) with 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists while freshman forward Lauren Beckley (Fairfield/Fairfield) added 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Senior center Shanna Oaddams (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) also reached double figures, scoring 12 points.

The loss was the third-straight and fourth in the last five games for the Mountaineers who suffered their worst shooting performance of the season, hitting on just 29.5-percent of their shots from the floor while making just 3-of-7 attempts from the free throw line. Mansfield's 46 points were the fewest it has scored this year, 21 below its season average.

In addition, the 70 points scored by the Lady Raiders was the second-highest totaled allowed by the Mountaineers this season. Mansfield entered the game ranked third in the PSAC in scoring defense while Shippensburg was first in scoring offense.

For the second-straight game, Shippensburg had a season-high 21 assists and during the team's three-game winning streak, it has totaled 61 assists for an average of 20.3 per game. On the season, in the Lady Raiders' six wins, they have averaged 18.5 assists compared to only 10.7 in their four losses.

Along with Fogle, senior guard Samantha Ramus (New Cumberland/Trinity), who ranked seventh in the PSAC in assists a year ago, also had a game-high six assists.

Mansfield held its largest lead of the game with 8:30 remaining in the first half before Shippensburg scored the game's next eight points on two three-pointers from Beckley and Fogle and a jumper in the paint by Oaddams. The Lady Raiders extended that four-point lead to six at halftime with Fogle accounting for 21 of the team's points, 12 on five field goals and another nine on four assists.

The Lady Raiders held Mansfield to just 27.8-percent shooting from the floor while forcing six turnovers in the opening half.

The Mountaineers cut their deficit to three in the first 3:08 of the second half, but Shippensburg responded with a 26-6 run over the next 10-plus minutes to take a 23-point lead with 6:28 remaining following a made free throw by freshman center Kendra Lehman (Shippensburg/Shippensburg).

Also for the second-straight night, the Lady Raiders were able to get quality minutes from their bench as all 12 players in uniform played in the game with 20 of the team's 70 points coming off the bench. Freshman guard Alicia Glasser (Marion Center/Marion Center) led the reserves by totaling a career-high three points for the second consecutive game.

Mansfield (5-4) was led by Jessica Uhrich who scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Emily Akins also added 11 points.

Shippensburg will break for the Christmas holiday before heading to San Diego on December 27 for the Surf N' Slam tournament on December 29 and 30. The Lady Raiders begin play against Shaw on Friday, December 29 at Noon, Eastern time.
