KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Behind a career-high 20 points from red-shirt freshman forward Jenny Cunningham (McVeytown/Lewistown) and a near triple double by senior guard Samantha Ramus (New Cumberland/Trinity), the Shippensburg women's basketball team looked impressive in a 93-72 win over Kutztown on Saturday in a PSAC crossover game.

With the 93 points totaled by the team, the Lady Raiders became the first team to score 90 or more points against Kutztown since the 1995-96 season, when Edinboro recorded 98 points against the Golden Bears in the PSAC quarterfinal that year.

The Lady Raiders (3-3) used a strong first half in which they forced 13 turnovers and scored 53 points to take a 24-point halftime lead, 53-39. In the first half, Shippensburg was led by freshman forward Lauren Beckley (Fairfield/Fairfield) who totaled 23 of her career-high 30 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-3 from three-point range and 6-of-7 from the free throw line.

Over her last three games, Beckley is averaging 27.7 points after 29 versus Charleston (WV) and 24 against Pittsburgh-Johnstown. On the season, she is now averaging 21.0 points per game, comfortably ahead of the school record for a freshman of 13.2 per game set by Jennifer Scaffidi '05 during the 2001-02 season.

The last time Shippensburg scored as many as 53 points in the first half was a year ago in a 99-58 victory over Mercy on Nov. 19, 2005 in the Wolf's Bus Lines Classic.

Also a big factor in the first half was Ramus who had five points, eight rebounds and six assists in 17 first half minutes as she was well on her way to nearly totaling her second career triple double, finishing the game with 10 points, a game-high 12 rebounds and nine assists.

Last year, Ramus became just the second player in Shippensburg history to total a triple double with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in a 74-57 victory at Seton Hill on Dec. 17, 2005. The only other player to do it was Melissa Swartz who had 11 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists in a 69-57 win at San Francisco State on Jan. 2, 1996.

The Lady Raiders led by as many 24 points in the first half following a 19-2 run that turned a seven-point Shippensburg lead into a 43-19 advantage. During the run, Beckley totaled 12 points, six of which came from behind the arc.

Meanwhile, Cunningham, who had just seven points in five games prior to this afternoon, had eight first half points and showed excellent touch from the outside, finishing the game 5-of-8 from the field while making 10-of-13 from the free throw line.

As a team, the Lady Raiders went 29-of-37 from the free throw line, marking the most attempts since they were 33-of-43 in an 82-57 win versus Lock Haven on Jan. 22, 2003. Shippensburg also held a commanding 50-33 edge in rebounds.

Leading by as many as 28 in the second half, Shippensburg eighth-year head coach Kristy Trn was able to get quality minutes for many of her reserves as all 12 of those in uniform for the Lady Raiders on Saturday played at least three minutes.

Among those reserves were freshmen Alicia Glasser (Marion Center/Marion Center) and Sheila Wasser (Tremont/Pine Grove). With Shippensburg leading 83-61 with with 5:09 left in the game, Glasser hit the first of two free throws for her first collegiate point as she finished with one point and two rebounds while Wasser made her first collegiate appearance, totaling three minutes.

Not to be overlooked on Saturday was the performance of the Lady Raiders two All-PSAC Western Division selections in senior center Shanna Oaddams (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) and junior guard Megan Fogle (Wrightsville/Eastern York). In a somewhat quiet performance, Oaddams finished with 14 points and eight rebounds in just 16 minutes while Fogle totaled seven points, six rebounds and four assists.

Shippensburg, who went 5-2 against the PSAC Eastern Division last season, won its sixth-straight against the East on Saturday and will head to East Stroudsburg on Sunday with game time set for 1:00 p.m., from Koehler Fieldhouse. The Warriors were picked by the conference coaches to win the Eastern Division this year.
