2012-13 (Sophomore): Participated in the 3K during his second season at Virginia Tech…placed sixth at the 2012 ACC Cross Country Championships to help the Hokies achieve their first conference championship in school history…posted a cross country time of 23:54 that marked the first sub-24 minute effort of his career in cross country over 8,000 meters…named to the All-ACC Academic Team.
2011-12 (Freshman): Was an ACC indoor qualifier in the 3K after serving as his team’s pacesetter in the event during his debut season at Virginia Tech…was the runner-up in the 3K at the Colonial Relays during the outdoor season and was an ACC qualifier in the 10K…competed in five cross country races (one unattached), winning 6K Hokie Open.
Midlothian High School: Thrived with the Trojans under the direction of coach Stan Morgan…was a 10-time AAA state medalist in Virginia, including three times in cross country and three times for the indoor mile…other state medals included two in the outdoor mile and two with his school’s 4x800-meter relay team…was an individual qualifier for Nike Nationals as a junior…competed at Nike Nationals again as a senior alongside his team…finished fourth at the 2009 Nike Cross Country Southeast Regional Championship…among his splits were a 15:20 personal best in 5K cross country competition and an outdoor mile in 4:15…achieved National Spanish exam honors as a sophomore and junior and earned two places in a county-wide Write Now contest, winning the fiction category.
Personal: Full name is Brayden James Burleigh…is the son of Bryan and Pamela Malvin Burleigh…majoring in English while seeking secondary teaching certification…has two brothers, Jonathan and Nicky…his mother, Pamela, attended Lower Dauphin (Pa.) High School (overlapping with current SU coach Steve Spence) and went on to graduate from the University of Richmond, where she earned multiple All-CAA honors...his father, Bryan, was a three-year starter in football at Virginia Tech who played for the Hokies from 1982-85.
