SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Redshirt-freshman quarterback
Chris Lawshe threw for 402 yards and four touchdowns on 32-of-55 passing on Saturday afternoon as the Shippensburg University football team's Red squad blew by the White squad with a 44-0 shutout in the 2013 Red-White Spring Game from SU Student Association Field at Seth Grove Stadium.
The Red team finished the game with a 459-170 advantage in total offensive yards while converting four second-quarter White interceptions into points and racing out to a 41-0 halftime lead.
The primary backup to junior Harlon Hill-winning quarterback
Zach Zulli and who completed 15 total passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns last season, Lawshe connected on touchdown strikes to four different targets in the first half, including the game's leading receiver, redshirt-freshman
Jordan Harro (seven catches for 101 yards).
Lawshe also hooked up with redshirt-freshman tight end
Daniel Wheeler (four catches, 40 yards), freshman
J.P. Wilson (six catches, 86 yards) and freshman running back
Sharif Smith (three catches, 41 yards) – who eluded three tacklers while taking a 24-yard swing pass to the house with 1:49 left in the second quarter.
Sophomore wide receiver and 2012 Daktronics Second Team All-America pick
Trevor Harman led the White with 74 yards on six catches. Red freshman running back
Cordairo Taylor paced all rushers with 64 yards on 24 carries, including a two-yard touchdown just before halftime. Sophomore running back
Blair Brooks added 41 yards on 10 carries for the White team.
Sophomore linebacker
Sean Sadosky led all defensive players with nine tackles for the Red, including one for loss, while his teammates, junior defensive ends
Dainen Green and
Jake Metz, each recorded two sacks.
Freshman defensive tackle
Marc Ranaudo also totaled two sacks for the White. Junior safety
Tyriq Kershaw accounted for two of the Red's four interceptions with junior safety
Mike Goode and sophomore linebacker
Brian Sourber grabbing the other two.
Junior placekicker
Drew Newcomer was perfect between the uprights all afternoon, making all three of his field goal attempts (31 yards, 35 yards, 31 yards) and going 5-for-5 on extra points.
On Friday night, the team voted its captains for the 2013 season: senior offensive lineman
Jason Brady, Green, Harman, Metz and Zulli.
The Raiders will conclude their spring practice schedule with three practices next week.
