Women’s Indoor Track & Field Starts Bison Opener With Two Multis PRs, 13 PSAC Marks

Sondermann and Slonaker achieve pentathlon PRs; SU totals 13 PSAC qualifying marks

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's track and field kicked off its weekend at the Bison Opener on Friday night with a pair of PRs in the multis and 13 total PSAC qualifying marks in competition held at Gerhard Fieldhouse on the Bucknell University campus.

Sophomore Maeghan Sondermann and senior Katie Slonaker each set new PRs in the pentathlon – with Sondermann totaling 2,652 points and Slonaker compiling 2,579 points. Sondermann achieved new personal bests in the 800 meters (2:41.98) and the high jump (5' 1 ¾”) while Slonaker did so in the 60-meter hurdles (10.17) and the long jump (15' 5 ½”) while matching her PR in the high jump.

Senior Sara Wagner came within 11 points of her PR, finishing third with a total of 2,890 points. Wagner matched her indoor PR in the high jump (4' 10 ¼”).

Sophomore Daniesa Lyles led a group of four Raiders that posted PSAC qualifying marks in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.35 seconds in both the preliminaries and the finals.  Sophomore Rachel Haupt recorded a season PR of 9.63 seconds in the finals.

Junior Megan Breski paced three Raiders with PSAC qualifying marks in the pole vault by finishing fourth after clearing 11' 3 ¾”. Sophomore Ellie Ressler once again matched her indoor PR of 10 feet 10 inches. Sophomore Kellie Bresz cleared 10 feet 4 inches.

Junior Courtney Martin, freshman Yaneshia Gaston and freshman Danesha Butler all qualified for Saturday's finals of the 200 meters. Martin paced the Raider contingent with an indoor PR of 26.55 seconds. Sophomore Ally Herr did not hit a PSAC mark but did set a new indoor PR with a time of 27.79 seconds.

Freshman Ashley Nicola competed in the multis and excelled in the long jump, finishing second with a mark of 17 feet 1.25 inches that is well beyond the PSAC qualifying standard. Nicola will shift her focus primarily to the long jump for the remainder of the indoor season.

Fellow freshman Bailey Davis matched her PR in the high jump (4 feet 2 inches) during the multis competition.

The second day of competition resumes at 9:30 a.m. from Gerhard Fieldhouse.
