SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's basketball team shot 77 percent from the field and made 24 buckets in the second half of Tuesday's night clash with CACC opponent Goldey-Beacom en route to a 93-80 victory over the Lightning from Heiges Field House.

Shippensburg (2-5) held a one-point lead with 10:33 remaining before erupting with a 12-3 run over the next 2 minutes and 30 seconds to build a 71-61 advantage. At one point in the second half, the Raiders went 11 minutes and 31 seconds without a miss from the floor – a span that included 15 consecutive made field goals (three of which were three-pointers). The team also made 20-of-22 (90.9 percent) two-point field goal attempts in the final frame.

Goldey-Beacom (1-4) shot 68 percent from the field in the second half and put up 51 points of its own in the final frame but could not keep up with the torrid Raider offense. The Lightning committed just five turnovers – including just two in the first half – and did not commit an offensive foul in the contest. GBC had won the last two meetings over the Raiders, including last year's season opener.

SU had four players finish with double-digit points – as senior forward Will Royal scored a team-high 21 and senior guard Jordan Stasyszyn posted 20 of his own. Royal scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half and also finished with a game-high eight rebounds. Stasyszyn was 4-of-7 from three-point range. Both men had four assists.

Sophomore Dylan Edgar had one of his most efficient nights from the field, scoring 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting to go along with seven rebounds. Edgar, who has averaged 11.6 points over his last five games, finished just one point short of his career high established just four games ago against California (Pa.).

Senior Craig Van Scyoc added 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting.

SU had its most efficient night with the basketball in recent memory, dishing out a season-high 25 assists while committing just nine turnovers. It marks the most assists in one game since a 96-49 defeat of PSU-Greater Allegheny on Nov. 20, 2009. Both teams were putting up shots left and right, as the Lightning committed just five turnovers while totaling 17 assists.

Freshman Reggie Charles dished out eight of those assists in addition to six points, four rebounds and a blocked shot. Senior Dane Lauber had seven points and five assists in 25 minutes off the bench.

Shippensburg returns to action at 3 p.m. Saturday from Heiges Field House against PSAC West rival Edinboro.
