was selected to the 2009-10 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's At Large Second Team for the College Division of District 2, which encompasses all Division II, Division III, NAIA and junior colleges in the states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
Brooks competed as a member of the NCAA Division II national semi-finalist Lady Raider field hockey team and finished the fall 2009 semester with a 3.966 grade-point average after five semesters of coursework at Shippensburg. The management major was also named an inaugural recipient of the NCAA's Elite 88 award at the November field hockey championships. That award was presented to Brooks for holding the highest cumulative grade-point average at the site of the national championship competition.
She is also the 2010 recipient of the Clarence Schock Foundation's Fellowship Award. The foundation's award, given annually to one student each from Cheyney, Kutztown, Millersville, West Chester and Shippensburg, provides tuition for a full year.
Brooks has been a three-time selection to the NFHCA Division II National Academic Squad and appeared in 22 games last season as a back and a defensive midfielder. One of her five starts in 2009 came in the NCAA Division II Semifinal game against Bloomsburg. Shippensburg tied a school record in 2009 with 20 victories.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects Academic All-America® teams in 12 programs. A first team and second team are selected in both the University (Division I and I-AA) and College (Division II, III and NAIA) Divisions. The women's at-large award includes nominees in the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
