Naylor, Wolter Grab Third-Place Finishes To Highlight Day 2 At 2010 PSAC Championships

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Freshman Eric Naylor posted a third-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley and senior Shane Wolter recorded a third-place effort in the 500-yard freestyle on Friday night to highlight the top individual performances for the Red Raider swimming team during the second day of competition at the 2010 PSAC Championships held at Cumberland Valley High School.

Wolter's finish in the 500-yard freestyle clocked in at 4:37.01, a NCAA 'B' cut time. Senior Drew Hagerich won the consolation final of the same event with a time of 4:43.06.

Naylor's third place finish in the 200-yard individual medley clocked in at 1:55.58, another NCAA 'B' cut time. Freshman Sean Minford swam to an 11th-place finish in the same event with a solid debut time of 1:58.57. Junior Derek Yeager capped the Red Raider scoring in the event with a 12th-place finish with a time of 1:58.82.

The 200-yard freestyle relay of junior Tim Smullen, freshman Eddie LaNoue, Yeager and senior Nate Ryan swam to a third-place finish with a time of 1.25.81. Ryan also won the consolation finals of the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.32, while Smullen finished in a tie for eleventh place (21.69).

Rounding out Shippensburg's scoring on Friday night was a fourth-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. Ryan, sophomore Evan Manning, Naylor and Smullen brought home a time of 3:29.37.

Shippensburg sits in third place entering Saturday's competition with a combined team score of 161.5 points. West Chester sets the pace with 259 points while Clarion has 223.5 points.

Preliminary competition begins at 10 a.m. Saturday while the final sessions for the day start at 6 p.m.
