WILMINGTON, Del. – After a low-scoring first half, the Shippensburg University men's basketball team allowed an 18-5 run to the host Lightning at the start of the second half and ultimately dropped its season opener on Monday night, 84-71 to Goldey-Beacom.

Shippensburg (0-1) shot 57 percent from the field in the second half and 45 percent for the game, but the Red Raiders struggled to establish any rhythm at the end of the first half. The Lightning out-scored Shippensburg 45-28 from the 10-minute mark of the first half to the 10-minute mark of the second half.

Sophomore point guard Lamar Jackson and redshirt junior guard Jordan Stasyszyn each paced the Red Raiders with 16 points, as both men hit three 3-pointers in the contest. Junior Craig Van Scyoc also hit three 3-pointers and totaled 11 points.

Coming off the bench, sophomore guard John Corrigan contributed 10 points in his debut. Van Scyoc was the team's leading rebounder with four boards.

Shippensburg shot 12-of-25 from three-point range (48 percent), but just 11-of-24 from the free-throw line (46 percent).

The Red Raiders host the Wolf's Bus Lines Classic on Friday and Saturday from Heiges Field House. SU's home opener is Friday at 8 p.m. versus Nyack.
