AKRON, Ohio - Senior Drew Hagerich was the top individual finisher on Sunday as the Shippensburg University men's swimming team finished in sixth place after the third and final day of competition from the 2009 Zippy Invitational, hosted by the University of Akron at the Ocasek Natatorium.

Freshman Eric Naylor finished 10th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:55.28, nearly winning the 'B' group final and improving his previous season-best by three full seconds. Senior Shane Wolter finished 13th with a time of 1:58.36 that was a five-second improvement from his time recorded at GMU.

Hagerich finished fourth in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:26.18. Freshman Brandon Rapone finished 13th in the event with a time of 17:14.33. In other freestyle competition, the 400-yard freestyle relay of senior Tim Smullen, Wolter, Naylor and senior Nate Ryan finished sixth with a time of 3:09.41.

Freshman Sean Minford performed admirably in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing fifth with a time of 2:10.61. Ironically, that time is the exact same time as his performance two weeks ago at the Patriot Invitational. Sophomore Evan Manning reached the 'B' group final and finished 14th with a time of 2:12.99.

Shippensburg will return to action at 5 p.m. on Jan. 15, 2010 with a dual meet at Bloomsburg.
