Lori Hewlett-Livingston, Class of 1977, played field hockey for four years, competed with the swimming team two years and with the tennis team three years. She lettered seven times in the three sports, including three times with tennis and twice each with field hockey and swimming.
Hewlett-Livingston was captain of the tennis team and in her junior year earned the Most Valuable Player Award as the Lady Raiders compiled an 8-3 won-loss record. The team won its last seven matches in a row, including victories over Mt. St. Mary’s, Millersville and Bloomsburg. Hewlett was undefeated in doubles competition that year with a 7-0 record. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference did not conduct a conference championship tournament. The team was 3-5 in 1974 and 5-3 in 1975.
In field hockey Hewlett-Livingston was one of the tri-captains her senior year. The starting goalie, she helped the team compile a 9-2-3 overall record her senior season. That year the team was undefeated in its last eight games with five wins and three ties, and it began a school record 27 consecutive games without defeat. In the four years that she was with the team the Lady Raiders had a record of 24-13-6 for winning percentage of .628. Hewlett-Livingston actually started her hockey career as a forward but when the team needed help, she unselfishly volunteered to learn the difficult goalie position her junior year.
Hewlett-Livingston came to Shippensburg from Phoenixville High School in the fall of 1973. In addition to her accomplishments in the competition, Hewlett was the secretary of the Women’s Athletic Association and secretary of Tau Kappa Honorary Athletic Society. For her contributions to the women’s athletics at Shippensburg, she was the 1975-76 recipient of the Helen B. Kraiss Award.
Hewlett later became a teacher in the Central York School District.
