Dr. Robert Ordorff was an integral part of Shippensburg University from 1966 to December, 1995. His first position, in 1966, was director of financial aid. Later he was named dean of student services and advisor to the Student Senate.
In 1977, he was promoted to assistant vice president for student affairs. In 1985 he was named vice president for student affairs with athletics added to his responsibilities. Many people do not realize the behind the scenes work that goes on and the ability of the vice-president or president to identify resources to provide support for athletics added to his responsibilities.
He played a significant leadership role in helping implement the university’s efforts towards achieving gender equality. Shippensburg is viewed by the universities in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference as the leader in gender equity policy-an accomplishment carried out without a lawsuit or threat of one.
His most noticeable contributions were in areas that benefited students. He contributed to the consolidation of the department of athletics and the steady improvement in facilities. He played a role in helping department of athletic proposals find funding. A significant change in policy mandating professional drivers and buses for all the road contests.
Orndorff was the first recipient of the Susan Ann Brown Award, presented by the State System of Higher Education. Part of the recognition was for the role he played as an advisor and consultant for the vice-presidents at the other PSAC universities.
Orndorff is a graduate of Shippensburg University. He played for the Red Raiders football team and was team co-captain in 1960. He is a native of Littlestown and lives in Shippensburg.
