Diane Wilcox Bohenick played a crucial role in Shippensburg’s drive to the AIAW Division III National Championship in 1979. She was the team captain and as a midfielder, Bohenick helped Shippensburg shutout the opposition 14 times in 21 games while compiling a school record of 16 wins.
At the national championship tournament, Shippensburg defeated Lynchburg (Va.) 1-0, Chico State (Calif.) 2-1, Glassboro State (N.J.) 1-0 before meeting Franklin & Marshall in the finals. The Lady Raiders won 1-0.
A four-year starter, Bohenick also helped the team set a school record of 27 games without a loss. The streak began in 1976 and ended in 1978. Wilcox was second on the team in assists in 1978.
During her freshman year in 1976 the team was 8-3-3. The record was 11-0-2 during her sophomore year, 9-4 in her junior year and 16-2-3 the year the Lady Raiders won the national title. For her career Shippensburg had a record of 44-9-8 for a winning percentage of .787.
Bohenick also played varsity softball. The team was club team her freshman year in 1977. As a sophomore, the team’s first year as an intercollegiate team, the Lady Raiders went 12-2. In 1979 the team was 11-7. She was team captain in 1980.
Bohenick’s hometown was Chambersburg. After graduation she moved to Harrisburg.
