Dave Calvario of Waynesburg, lettered in football three years. A native of Pottstown, Calvario is a 1978 graduate of St.Pius X High School.
Calvario was one the tri-captains of Shippensburg’s 1981 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship team. The Red Raiders were 11-0 during the regular season including a 34-17 win over Millersville in the State Game. Following the regular season, Shippensburg competed in the NCAA Division tournament and reached the semi-finals. The Red Raiders beat Virginia Union 40-27 in the quarter finals, and then lost to North Dakota State 18-6 in the semi-finals.
An offensive tackle, Calvario spearheaded the blocking for the Red Raiders. The team generated 394.8 yards per game, which is still a team record for total offense. Following the season Calvario was named first team All -PSAC and was named to the Associated Press All-America third team. He was given the Shippensburg University football team’s Vint Rambo Award, which goes to the outstanding senior lineman each season.
Calvario obtained a doctorate in higher education administration and became the Associate Dean for Student Services at Waynesburg College.
