Bethany Long Corio was a three-time All-PSAC lacrosse player and two-time All-PSAC women’s soccer player from 2006-09 who etched herself in the record books for both sports. She started 75 games as a goalkeeper for the soccer team and 66 games as a defender and midfielder for the lacrosse team.

In soccer, Corio holds the school record for career saves (493) and ranks second in school history with 24 career shutouts. Her .831 career save percentage was also a school record at the time of her graduation and remains second all-time in school history. Her 1.34 career goals-against average (GAA) ranks third in school history.

Corio recorded at least 107 saves in all four of her seasons, making her one of just two goalkeepers in school history with four seasons of 100 or more saves. She also posted a save percentage of .814 or better in all four of her seasons. Her All-PSAC First Team honor as a junior in 2008 came after starting all 20 games, posting a career-best 1.03 GAA and tying a single-season school record with nine shutouts. Overall, Corio totaled 31 victories and six ties as a Raider goalkeeper.

In lacrosse, Corio is one of 12 players in school history to finish as a three-time All-PSAC player. Her trademark role was as a defender, but she was shifted at times to play in the midfield due to her success on draw controls and with groundballs. She ranks fourth in school history with 172 career groundballs and fifth in school history with 72 draw controls.

As a senior in 2009, Corio led the team with a career-high 29 draw controls and ranked second with 42 groundballs while also scoring 12 goals. She led the team with 39 groundballs as a sophomore All-PSAC First Team performer in 2007 before recording a career-high 64 groundballs as a junior All-PSAC Second Team player. She missed only the first two games of her sophomore season, otherwise starting all 66 of her career games, including one as an emergency goalkeeper.

In her time at Shippensburg, Corio was active with both the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and with the Tau Kappa (TK) Women’s Athletics sorority. She was TK’s secretary as a junior and president as a senior.

Corio earned her undergraduate degree in business from Shippensburg in 2009 and remained at the university to pursue her master’s degree while also using her final season of eligibility in women’s soccer. She worked as a graduate assistant in the academic success program and earned her master’s degree in organizational development and leadership in 2010.

She remained active in soccer after her career ended, working for three seasons as an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach at Bryn Mawr College from 2010-12. Corio also was a goalkeeper trainer and a youth soccer coach for several years.

Corio is now the vice president of operations for Perrin Conferences, based in Wayne, Pa. She frequently travels throughout the country for legal education conferences. She is a proud mother of three daughters, ages 7, 5, and 2, and coaches her daughters in youth soccer.
