The Shippensburg University lacrosse team announced a special "Make-A-Wish" event for its April 1 game and additional benefit events to be held later this season.

On April 1, SU is inviting back Jay Dawson, 6, last year's Make-A-Wish reveal recipient, to accompany the Raider lacrosse team for the day. Jay and his mother Tiffany, a 2005 SU graduate, plan to enjoy the game as a continuation of last year's event made possible by Make-A-Wish® Philadelphia, Northern Delaware & Susquehanna Valley.

At this event, the team is seeking donations for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Stars will be sold for a $1 donation that will be hung at the game. Also, at halftime, Jay's mother plans to speak to the crowd about their experience – including last year's trip to Disney World.

Shippensburg Lacrosse also announced two other additional events. On April 4 at Millersville, Shippensburg will join the Marauders as participants in the annual 'Lax 4 Life' event in which donations will be collected toward the "Lax 4 Life" Foundation, which deals with adolescent and teen suicide prevention.

On April 12 at East Stroudsburg (Coach Miller's alma mater), the team will be participating in the Alyssa Oxenford Memorial Game. The two teams will be commemorating the life of a former Warrior lacrosse player who lost a battle with leukemia.

About Make-A-Wish®

Make-A-Wish® grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. According to a 2011 U.S. study of wish impact, most health professionals surveyed believe a wish-come-true can have positive impacts on the health of children. Kids say wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illnesses, and their parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire family. Based in Phoenix, Make-A-Wish is one of the world's leading children's charities, serving children in every community in the United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors and more than 28,000 volunteers, Make-A-Wish grants a wish somewhere in the country every 35 minutes. It has granted more than 270,000 wishes since its inception in 1980.  Make-A-Wish® Philadelphia, Northern Delaware & Susquehanna Valley serves Bucks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Lancaster, Lebanon, Montgomery, Perry & Philadelphia counties in PA and New Castle County in Delaware. In 2016 Make-A-Wish celebrated 30 years of wishes for over 5,600 children since 1986. For more info, please visit philasv.wish.org.
