Austin Shupp broke his own school record in the 60-meter hurdles on Friday night to highlight a strong evening for the Shippensburg University men's indoor track & field team in competition from the Susquehanna University Challenge.
Shupp, who broke the school record as a freshman with a time of 8.22 seconds and then tied that effort last year, ran 8.19 seconds in the finals on Friday night to move into second on the current Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) performance list for the event. The performance is a NCAA-provisional qualifier.
Also on Friday night, Shupp picked up his conference qualifier in the long jump by recording a mark of 21 feet, 6 ¼ inches.
On the track, freshman
Rob Moser made his indoor track debut and placed fourth in the 3K on a time of 8:55.33. Moser slots into the PSAC's Top 5 for the event with his season debut performance.
Freshman
Cam Strohe picked up a conference qualifier in the weight throw on a mark of 46 feet, 5 ¼ inches. Junior
Bryan Pearson won Friday's competition on a throw of 53 feet, 4 ¼ inches.
Junior
Alec Rideout won the shot put competition on an NCAA-provisional qualifying mark of 51 feet, 11 ¼ inches.
Shippensburg splits its squad next weekend, traveling to Boston and Bucknell.
