Reggie Charles of the Shippensburg University men's basketball team was named the PSAC Eastern Division Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday afternoon by the league office, marking his second weekly award of the season.
Charles carried the Raiders to an 87-77 upset victory over No. 9 ESU on Saturday, snapping the Warriors' school-record tying 14-game winning streak and handing ESU its first PSAC loss since a defeat to Lock Haven on Dec. 18.
Against the Warriors, Charles scored 31 points (9-of-14 shooting, 3-of-3 from three-point range, 10-of-11 at FT line), dished out nine assists and had a career-high five steals. Perhaps no shot was bigger than his final three-pointer, which came with 1:21 remaining off a broken play and the shot clock winding down.
For the first time in his career, Charles played all 40 minutes in regulation. His 31 points are the most in a regulation game in his career and just three shy of his career high (34) set earlier in the season in an overtime game at Lock Haven.
Earlier in the week, Charles helped SU sweep Bloomsburg by putting up 17 points (4-of-10 shooting, 8-of-9 at FT line) and dishing out eight assists to go along with four steals.
Overall for the week, Charles averaged 24.0 points, 8.5 assists, 4.5 steals and 3.0 rebounds per game. He shot 54 percent from the floor, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, and made 18-of-20 free-throw attempts.
The Raiders travel to West Chester Wednesday for an 8 p.m. tip-off from Hollinger Fieldhouse.
