Shippensburg Basketball To "Play 4 Kay" and "Hoop For A Cure" on February 16

Raider squads will raise funds for breast cancer awareness/research and also hold its annual alumni games

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — The Shippensburg University athletics department and the Raider basketball teams will be conducting its annual "Play 4 Kay" event on Sat., Feb. 16 from Heiges Field House surrounding its home PSAC East doubleheader against East Stroudsburg.

The event will be held in conjunction with the PSAC initiative ("Hooping For A Cure") and the national "Play 4 Kay" initiative of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund - whose purpose is to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research.

The Shippensburg women will play at 1 p.m., with the men to follow at approximately 3 p.m. Both teams are expected to wear "Hooping For A Cure" shirts during warmups.

Everyone is encouraged to wear pink to the event. All fans wearing pink will receive free admission to the games.

GIVEAWAYS: All patrons will receive pink ribbons and fan signs at the entrance.

T-SHIRT TOSS: During the under-16-minute and under-8-minute media timeouts in each half of both games, T-shirts will be tossed into the stands.

PRESENTATIONS: At halftime, a guest speaker will make a presentation. SU Athletics will also present the first Jane Goss Perseverance Award.

MEN'S HALFTIME PROMOTIONS: A game of "Knock Out" will take place. Also, for a $1 donation to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, any fan will be allowed to attempt a three-point shot for a chance to win a t-shirt. Additionally, one lucky fan will be given a chance to shoot a half-court shot in an attempt to win a $250 gift card courtesy of the Shippensburg University Bookstore.

TAU KAPPA: Tau Kappa, Shippensburg University's women's athletic sorority, will be offering face painting and tattoos at a table inside the gymnasium while assisting with donations. The student-athletes will also be handing out ribbons and fast facts.

INFO TABLES: Numerous organizations will be present at the game including the Shippensburg University Women's Center, Colleges Against Cancer and Jeff Fisher Insurance.

SILENT AUCTION: A silent auction will also be conducted with numerous items/gift baskets up for bids.

SU BOOKSTORE: In addition to sponsoring the men's basketball halftime halfcourt shot promition, a mobile edition of the Shippensburg University Bookstore will be present with pink merchandise and other general merchandise for sale.

ABOUT PLAY 4 KAY: The WBCA Pink Zone was rebranded as Play 4Kay. The mission of the initiative, which was brought to life in 2007, remains intact: a nation of coaches raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is the official charity of the initiative.
