SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Junior Simon Rice earned a pin at 141 pounds and the Shippensburg University wrestling team won four of the nine contested bouts on Wednesday night from Heiges Field House but dropped a 21-15 decision to the Yellowjackets of Waynesburg University.

Shippensburg (2-3) took a 9-6 lead in the match with a 3-0 decision by sophomore Cody Myers and Rice's pin just 1:47 into his match with Jake Vitolo. Myers is now 5-0 and has yet to concede more than two points in a match this season while Rice has won three consecutive bouts.

Junior Dan Estricher also improved to 5-0 this season with an 8-3 decision at heavyweight over Martin Kisla. Estricher had a takedown in each period and built a 93-second riding time advantage to control his match.

Freshman Luke Etter improved to 3-0 on the young season with a 7-2 decision in front of the partisan crowd. Etter had a 5-0 lead with less than a minute left in his match but had to fend off a late reversal to earn the victory at 174 pounds.

The most exciting match of the night occurred at 165 pounds in which Sam Lombardo outlasted Raider freshman Neil Grudi, 18-14.  Both men had a pair of reversals and a near fall in the opening period before Lombardo picked up three more takedowns and another near fall in the second period. Despite trailing 17-9 entering the final period, Grudi fought hard and earned two more takedowns before coming up short.

Shippensburg returns to action at 7 p.m. Saturday from Heiges Field House with a dual meet against regional rival West Liberty. The team is holding its Alumni gathering and will recognize all of its former wrestlers in attendance with a pre-match ceremony.
