Senior Whitney Garner Earns All-American Honors In 200 Free At DII National Championships

Garner swims the third-fastest 200 free time in school history

CANTON, Ohio - Senior Whitney Garner became the second Lady Raider in two days to achieve All-American status on Thursday from the 2010 Division II Swimming Championships by achieving a 15th-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.38.

Garner reached the 'B' group finals after a career-best performance of 1:53.28 in the preliminaries that ranks as the third-best performance of the event in school history. Overall, Garner was one of three PSAC swimmers to achieve All-American status. West Chester senior Jackie Borkowski was the national champion with a time of 1:49.31.

In relay competition, Shippensburg's 200-yard freestyle relay squad of Garner, sophomore Nicole Capozzi, freshman Julia Brownrigg and sophomore Kristen McCandless posted a time of 1:38.44. The 400-yard medley relay squad of Brownrigg, Garner, junior Amy Fisher and Capozzi posted a time of 3:59.78.

Individually, Fisher posted a season-best time of 58.30 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly and McCandless finished the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 1:54.90.
