SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - As the Shippensburg University baseball team gets set to start a new decade of excitement, the Raider program is celebrating its past by naming an all-decade team. From 2000-09, SU fielded 12 players who were signed or drafted by an MLB franchise, including eight from this team.
Catcher
Jeremy Glessner '02
PSAC Eastern Division First Team (2002, C)
PSAC Eastern Division First Team (2001, C)
Signed by the Colorado Rockies as a free agent
Glessner was a transfer from West Virginia University who formed a potent catching and designated hitting tandem with another member of this group, Matt DeSanto. Glessner was a strong slugging right-handed hitter who earned back-to-back All-PSAC First Team picks as a junior and a senior and was signed by the Rockies following his Shippensburg career. Glessner's best season came as a junior, when he hit .367 with six home runs and had separate eight and nine game-hitting streaks while compiling 80 total bases. His strong arm allowed him to throw out numerous would-be base stealers during his career.

First Base
Andy Dangler '04
PSAC Western Division First Team (2004, C)
PSAC Eastern Division Second Team (2003, 1B)
Signed by the Minnesota Twins as a free agent
Dangler was an invaluable member of the Red Raiders in his three seasons with the team after transferring from the University of Cincinnati. He played first base and also saw some time at catcher but set a school record for putouts in a game during the NCAA East Regional Tournament in 2003. He was the only player to start all 53 of the team's games during that '03 season and finished the year as an All-PSAC Second Team pick with a .361 batting average, 38 RBIs and 101 total bases. He was an All-PSAC First Team pick as a senior in 2004 and signed with the Minnesota Twins following his playing career with the Red Raiders.

Second Base
Ryan Lindstadt '04
PSAC Western Division Second Team (2004, 2B)
Shippensburg has had several solid second basemen over the past decade, but Lindstadt was a rock at the position for three straight key years and hit .321 over the course of 564 career at-bats. He shined in his first full year as a starter, batting .339 during his sophomore season and leading the team with 58 hits and 41 runs. He was constantly among the team's leaders each season in runs and doubles while playing over 150 games in his career. Lindstadt also finished his career with 121 runs and 261 total bases.

Shortstop
Scott Kintz '04
PSAC Western Division Second Team (2004, SS)
PSAC Eastern Division First Team (2003, UT)
Kintz had a very impactful two-year stint with Shippensburg after earning Junior College All-American honors at his previous school, Allegheny Community College. In the team's NCAA East Regional tournament win over West Chester in 2003, Kintz was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Kintz finished his first year at SU as an All-PSAC First Teamer. He served as the starting shortstop in 2004 and was an All-PSAC Second Teamer after batting .374 with 58 hits, 11 doubles, 34 RBIs and 34 runs scored. He also struck out just 18 over the course of 297 at-bats as a Red Raider, a 16.5:1 ratio.

Third Base
Jeremy Hess '06
PSAC Western Division Second Team (2006, 3B)
PSAC Western Division First Team (2004, UT)
Hess was a masher, and man could he hit. His most consistent position when he was in the field was at third base, where he earned an All-PSAC Second Teamer in 2006. He was an All-North Atlantic Region Second Team pick in 2004 as a sophomore when he hit .365 with 27 RBIs and 76 total bases. He capped off his Red Raider career however with a huge bang, slugging nine home runs and totaling 49 RBIs while batting .379 through 190 at-bats in 2006. Hess finished his career with 18 homers, 32 doubles, 101 RBIs and 104 runs while compiling a .351 career batting average.

Justin Garber '08
2008 PSAC Spring Top 10 Award Winner
PSAC Western Division First Team (2008, OF)
PSAC Western Division First Team (2007, OF)
PSAC Western Division First Team (2006, OF)
Drafted by the New York Mets in the 2008 MLB Draft (34th rd., 1,034th pick)
There isn't much that Justin Garber couldn't do, as the New York Mets organization noticed last year with a .275 batting average and 10 RBIs in a quick stint at the New York-Penn League level. Garber was an offensive and defensive machine for Shippensburg, twice hitting over .400 in a season and finishing his Red Raider tenure with a .396 batting average and numerous school records. His senior season was ridiculous, as he batted .434 through 242 at-bats, scored 62 runs, compiled 46 RBIs and struck out just 17 times. He became the only player in PSAC history to compile more than 100 hits, raking 105 that year, and held the conference's all-time hit mark until last season. In addition to countless awards, Garber is SU's record holder for career batting average, runs, games, at-bats, hits and total bases in addition to single-game records for at-bats and runs. He also ranks third in SU history with 68 stolen bases. Not bad for someone who was recruited as a pitcher.

Chad Stecker '05
2004 ABCA Second Team All-American
PSAC Western Division First Team (2005, OF)
PSAC Western Division First Team (2004, OF)
Shippensburg was blessed with consecutive outstanding center fielders, as Stecker was the precursor to Garber's run in the outfield. Stecker's junior season set the bar for insane productivity at Shippensburg, as he set a PSAC record with 91 hits in 216 at-bats for a .421 batting average in addition to seven homers, 37 RBIs and 67 runs that year. He is tied with Garber for the all-time runs record at Shippensburg with 188 in his career and is third to Garber and
Tyler Redick with 254 career hits. Stecker remains the school record holder with 52 career doubles. Stecker and Redick also have the school record for the longest hitting streak at 22 consecutive games. You always knew when Stecker would lead off the game at home thanks to the classic drawn-out introduction that was yelled out by a member of the Red Raider dugout, and the opposing pitchers grew accustomed to dreading his presence in the batter's box.

Redick was sometimes undeservingly lost in Garber's shadow but produced more hits than anyone in school history besides his teammate and ranks fourth in PSAC history with his career total of 277. He was a three-time All-PSAC Second Teamer and yet his most exciting moment came with a save in the 2008 Atlantic Regional Tournament that sent Shippensburg to the College World Series. He was the tournament MVP of that series after going
10-for-21 with three doubles, seven RBIs, seven runs scored and two stolen bases in addition to the save. He never hit for much power, slugging just eight career home runs, but totaled 37 doubles and 173 runs while hitting .349 for his career through nearly 800 at-bats. He also played in a school-record 220 career games, a total that included 186 consecutive starts, and ranks the third-highest among PSAC annals. His 794 at-bats are also the most in school history while his 358 total bases ranks third.

PSAC Eastern Division First Team (2003, C)
PSAC Eastern Division First Team (2001, DH)
PSAC Eastern Division First Team (2000, DH)
There's sluggers, and then there's Matt DeSanto. He began his SU career in 2000 as the East Rookie of the Year with a .385 average, five round trippers, 36 RBIs and 77 total bases. He concluded as a senior in 2003 as the East Player of the Year as the team's starting catcher, mashing 13 home runs and 51 RBIs while racking up 111 total bases for the second time in his career. He finished his career with a school-record 33 home runs, ninth most in PSAC history, and a school-record 156 RBIs, 15th most in PSAC history. Both records are still the tops at SU. He held the total bases record until he was passed by Garber and the doubles record until he was passed by Stecker. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of DeSanto's game was his plate discipline. Despite all that power, he struck out just 70 times in 618 at-bats while drawing 81 walks.

Paul Abraham '05
PSAC Eastern Division First Team (2000, OF)
PSAC Eastern Division Second Team (2001, SP)
Drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 2001 MLB Draft (12th rd., 351st pick)
A good way to define versatility on the baseball field in to lead your team one year in home runs as a batter and in ERA as a pitcher - a feat that Abraham achieved as a sophomore in 2000. Abraham never had a problem hitting, batting .302 through three years as an outfielder and a designated hitter with 16 home runs, 92 RBIs and 186 total bases. He even earned an All-PSAC First Team pick as an outfielder in 2000. But professional scouts eventually noticed his blistering fastball, as Abraham overcame a rough debut season on the mound to spin a 2.14 ERA through 33.1 innings in 2000 with 26 strikeouts and a 4-0 record. As a junior starter in 2001, Abraham went 7-6 with 82 strikeouts in 72 innings as an All-PSAC Second Teamer. The Rangers drafted Abraham in the 12th round that season as a pitcher. He came back to school over the period of several offseasons and graduated in 2005.

Drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2008 MLB Draft (12th rd., 369th pick)
Shippensburg has had a smorgasbord of quality pitchers come through the program over the past decade, but it's hard to argue that no one made as much of an impact as Matt Wright did in his three years with the Red Raiders. Wright became the first pitcher to win a College World Series game for Shippensburg with a ridiculous 166-pitch five-hitter against Franklin Pierce in which he struck out 15 batters in a game for the second time in his career . His 2008 season led to a Third Team All-American award after striking out 151 batters, both school and PSAC single-season records, while posting a 2.39 ERA. Wright was a two-time NCBWA North Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year and PSAC Western Division Pitcher of the Year in addition to being the West Rookie of the Year in 2006. His video game inspired strikeout totals are evident when looking at his career totals, in which Wright obliterated the school record and also broke the PSAC record with 333 through three years despite going pro before his senior season.

PSAC Western Division First Team (2005, SP)
PSAC Western Division First Team (2004, SP)

While some of his teammates were being drafted, McClintock was serving as the Red Raider ace for three straight years. McClintock was masterful as a starting pitcher for Shippensburg, setting a school record for career wins while spinning a 28-9 record over the course of four years. As a sophomore, McClintock was 10-3 with a 2.69 ERA in 14 starts, one of five players in school history with 10 or more wins in a season, and begun a string of three straight All-PSAC First Team awards. He made at least 13 starts per season over the course of his final three years but never lost more than four games in a year and was a rock on the mound during every start. His stellar senior season included a 7-2 record and a 2.32 ERA despite 81.1 innings pitched. To this day, McClintock still ranks second in PSAC history with 43 career starts and 285 innings pitched while ranking fourth in PSAC history for wins and 10th in strikeouts.

Nathan Starner '06
2006 ABCA Third Team All-American
2006 PSAC Western Division Pitcher of the Year
PSAC Western Division First Team (2006, SP)
PSAC Western Division Second Team (2005, SP)
PSAC Western Division First Team (2004, RP)
Signed by the Toronto Blue Jays as a free agent
Nate Starner's pitches had a way of just dancing out of his hands when tossed from the Fairchild Field mound, especially on the breezy afternoon of Mar. 26, 2005 in which Starner set a school record with 16 strikeouts in a seven-inning game. His senior season proved to be his best, as the southpaw went 8-2 with a 2.19 ERA with 82 strikeouts in 74 innings. Starner became the first pitcher in the 11-year tenure of Bruce Peddie to earn a PSAC Pitcher of the Year award, the feat he achieved as a senior, and was a three-time All-PSAC pick during his career. He totaled 200 strikeouts through 199 innings as a Red Raider and recently completed his third full minor-league season with the Toronto Blue Jays organization.

Pitcher
Evan Englebrook '04
2004 ABCA First Team All-American
PSAC Western Division First Team (2004, SP)
Drafted by the Houston Astros in the 2004 MLB Draft (8th rd., 244th pick)
Evan Englebrook was tall and mean to opposing batters, using his sizable 6-8 frame to intimidate even the best of hitters. His final two seasons at Shippensburg were stellar, with his senior year resulting in him becoming the only Red Raider to become an ABCA First Team All-American since 1991. In 2004, Englebrook went 11-1, setting a school record for wins in a year, while posting a 1.78 ERA. He struck out 113 batters in 86 innings while throwing six complete games and yielding just 14 extra-base hits. His production as a junior is not to be lost as well, as in 2003 the right-hander went 6-5 in 80 innings of work with 67 strikeouts and a 2.92 ERA. Overall, Englebrook struck out 236 batters in 236 innings while posting a 22-7 career record. He may become the first Red Raider to play in a major-league game in a very long time, as Englebrook was placed on the Astros 40-man roster late last year and will be pitching for the team in spring training.

Pitcher
Randy Dicken
2004 ABCA Third Team All-American
PSAC Western Division First Team (2004, SP)
Drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2004 MLB Draft (7th rd., 207th pick)
Dicken was in Shippensburg for just one season but did he ever make a big impact in 2004. After two years at Allegany College of Maryland, Dicken arrived as a junior and went nuts, going 9-2 with a 1.59 ERA in 73.2 innings while striking out 104 batters. He also allowed just 50 hits and 19 walks and the PSAC was down right petrified of Shippensburg's 1-2 combination with Englebrook and Dicken. Opposing batters hit just .188 against Dicken that year and compiled a meager 13 extra-base hits. Toronto was quick to snatch him up with a seventh-round pick in the 2004 draft.
