SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University football team will have seven of its 11 games televised this year, including all six home games and the road contest at East Stroudsburg on September 20. During the course of the 2008 season, the Red Raiders will play three games on the SPORTSfever Television Network (STN) while all six home games will be carried live by Shippensburg University Television (SUTV).
In addition, all 11 games will be broadcast live on Shippensburg University student radio station WSYC 88.7 FM as well as on the internet at
www.shipraiders.com.
In 2007, eight of the Red Raiders' 11 games were broadcast live on five networks - STN, SUTV, College Sports Television (CSTV), Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh and the Flames Sports Network in Central Virginia.
STN begins its second year of broadcasting PSAC football games on a live, weekly basis in 2008 after televising 11 games last season. The network estimates that it will reach 6,733,000 homes across Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Washington D.C.
After carrying 11 games in 2007, STN will show 14 games in 2008, including a sprint football contest between Cornell and Mansfield on Saturday, September 27 and the State Game on Saturday, November 8.
Three of Shippensburg's games will be carried live on STN, including two home games, the first of which will be Saturday, September 6 when the Red Raiders host Edinboro on Parents and Family Day. SPORTSfever will also broadcast the team's homecoming game with Bloomsburg on Saturday, October 25.
The final game in which the Red Raiders will be featured on STN will be when they travel to East Stroudsburg on Saturday, September 20 to take on the Warriors at Eiler-Martin Stadium. The game will mark the first ever for Shippensburg as a member of the PSAC Eastern Division after 48 years in the West.
As a result of all three games being televised by STN, the kickoffs for each game have been moved. The Edinboro and Bloomsburg games will now start at 12:30 PM while the contest at East Stroudsburg will begin at 4 PM.
Please note the change in the Bloomsburg game as it is a half hour earlier than normal for homecoming which is customarily at 1 PM. Fans are still encouraged to attend the parade and pre-game festivities, but need to be aware of the earlier start.
A list of the STN affiliates for this season are below.
Other Red Raiders games being broadcast live this season include home games against Shepherd, Millersville, C.W. Post and Cheyney that will be available on SUTV. SUTV can be seen on campus channel 75 and locally in Cumberland and Franklin counties on Comcast Cable channel 21.
Shippensburg opens the 2008 season against Shepherd at home on Saturday, August 30 in the 11th annual Great Valley Classic. The Rams, who finished 10-2 last season and ranked eighth in the final D2Football.com Top 25 Media Poll, have won three-straight against the Red Raiders and lead the classic, 6-4.
In the last meeting between the two teams at Seth Grove Stadium in 2006, Shepherd edged out a 14-0 victory in a sloppy game played in the remnants of Hurricane Ernesto. Shippensburg nearly upset the ninth-ranked Rams on the road in last year's season opener before falling, 19-14.
